Our Review

View from Dress Circle Matinée Dog gives this show a very high 91% overall! It truly deserves it. If you are a Tina Turner fan or just like her music it is a must see. The show started off a little slow, but it crecendos into hit after hit towards that magnificent toe tapping finale that is for sure. The musical works its magic in showcasing Tina’s life including those dark days of abuse, to the moments of her shining through as the superstar she is. It is a rollercoaster of emotion, there are ups and downs throughout.

With a playlist of songs including: Don’t Turn Around, Shake a Tailfeather, A Fool in Love, River Deep Mountain High, Proud Mary, Open Arms, Disco Inferno and Simply The Best there really is a plethora of Tina and Ike’s biggest hits, thouroughly enjoyable for all!

As we mentioned the show starts off a little slow but the way the story shines through is incredible, the placement of songs, the acting and the fight scenes are magnificent. A choreographical dream. It keeps you glued throughout, there really is no part of the show that should not be there. We both felt the show had a captivating theme, it really does draw you into the events of Tina’s life and leaves you wanting to know more.

There was a rapturous applase and a full house standing ovation at the end of the show, so much so that the ensemble and orchestra did a re-run of the finale “(simply) The Best” in full for us, what a treat. We had not until this point seen any show do it and it was a magical moment that is for sure.

The Aldwych Theatre

The Aldwych theatre itself is a stunning building! The theatre opened in 1905 it is Grade II listed and has undergone a major multi million pound refurbishment recently restoring it ti its former glory. It was origianlly built as a companion to the Novello Theatre.

Final Thoughts

We both thouroughly enjoyed the performance and wanted more, with a running time of 2hrs 45mins with a 20min interval it is a long show but trust us it fly’s by! Check out the links below:
