The full company has been revealed for one of this autumn’s most anticipated musicals, as the 30th anniversary West End revival of RENT prepares to open in London. Led by Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo, the new production brings together an exciting cast for Jonathan Larson’s iconic rock musical.

Gaten Matarazzo leads the company

Already announced as Mark Cohen, Gaten Matarazzo will make his West End debut in the role of the aspiring filmmaker at the heart of RENT. While millions know him as Dustin Henderson in Netflix’s Stranger Things, Matarazzo is no stranger to musical theatre, having previously appeared on Broadway in Les Misérables, Dear Evan Hansen and Sweeney Todd.

Joining him in the principal cast are:

The wider ensemble includes Baylie Carson, Laura Delany, Ryesha Higgs, Montoya Holloway-Johnson, Rhys Hopkins, Shem Omari James, Hannah Macpherson, TJ Matara-Holloway, Ryan Nixon, Leah Vassell, James Wilkinson-Jones and Kevin Yates.

A fresh chapter for a musical theatre classic

Thirty years after its groundbreaking Broadway premiere, RENT remains one of musical theatre’s most influential works. Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical follows a group of young artists navigating love, friendship and the AIDS crisis in New York’s East Village.

Its themes of community, resilience and living life to the fullest continue to resonate with new generations, making this anniversary revival feel especially timely.

Luke Sheppard returns to direct

The production is directed by Olivier Award winner Luke Sheppard, whose acclaimed Hope Mill Theatre staging now makes the leap to the West End. The creative team includes choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves and set design by David Woodhead, promising a contemporary take on Larson’s beloved musical while staying true to its emotional core.
