The Artist whisked us back to the 1920's in luxurious glamour! A truly wonderful performance that brings you ballet, musical, play and much more, something for everyone! We wish this world premiere every success... keep those eyes peeled for where it might pop up next!

We were honoured to be invited to Theatre Royal Plymouth’s World Premiere production of: The Artist! On arrival we were greeted with a red carpet welcome and a gala drinks reception, what a magical touch!

The Artist stars the multi award-winning international dancer and actor Robbie Fairchild as George Valentin, West End favourite Gary Wilmot as Al Zimmer, and introducing Briana Craig (42nd Street tour) as Peppy Miller. The Artist has mesmerised film audiences across the world for over a decade, winning five Academy Awards, seven BAFTAs and three Golden Globe Awards.

Now the beguiling love story is reinvented for the stage in a dazzling celebration of silent cinema that blends cutting-edge theatre-making with iconic music of the period, Theatre Royal Plymouth has triumphed yet again!

We were whisked into the 1920’s silent movie era and then dropped into the days of the “Talkies” with choreography to match the best in the business, this show is a beauty to view. The staging was perfect and it was stunning to think this was all made and produced right here in Plymouth! A triumph for McOnie and Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Our only negative of the whole experience is that we did not really think what the show actually was, a musical (slightly), a ballet (mostly), a play (almost certainly), a mash up of the lot? The show also had no interval and we think it could have done with one just before the “Talkies” would have given all those that dashed to the toilet time to do so without missing the magic.

We wish the show all the best! Watch out for where it pops up next! WELL DONE TO ALL!
